How does Express Entry work ?

Express Entry is a system implemented by the Government of Canada to manage and facilitate the immigration process for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents. It is designed to select candidates for immigration to Canada based on their skills, work experience, language proficiency, and other factors that contribute to their ability to integrate successfully into the Canadian economy.

The Express Entry system applies to three federal economic immigration programs:

Federal Skilled Worker Program

This program is for skilled workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently.

Federal Skilled Trades Program

This program is for skilled tradespeople with work experience in a specific trade who want to become permanent residents of Canada.

Canadian Experience Class

This program is for individuals who have gained skilled work experience in Canada and wish to become permanent residents.

If you qualify for any of the mentioned programs, you have the option to submit an application through Express Entry for the Provincial Nominee Program. If selected through nomination, you will receive additional points, enhancing your chances of receiving a swift invitation to apply.

Steps to Apply for Express Entry

Step 1: Obtain Your Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA)

If you completed your education outside Canada, begin the process by obtaining your Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA). This assessment validates that your educational qualifications align with the standards recognized by the Canadian educational system.

Step 2: Fulfill Language Proficiency Requirements

Proceed to fulfill the language proficiency requirements by undertaking the necessary English language tests. The minimum score is 6 bands in IELTS, equivalent to CLB 7. Ensure that your test results are less than 2 years old at the time of application. Additionally, consider showcasing proficiency in French, as familiarity with the language, tested through exams like the Test de evaluation de Francians (TEF), can provide an advantageous edge.

Step 3: Create Your Express Entry Profile

Initiate the application process by creating your Express Entry profile online. Provide comprehensive details about your age, work experience, education, language proficiency, and more. Your profile will be assigned a score based on these details. If your score meets the required threshold, you can submit your profile, adding it to the Express Entry pool.

Step 4: Calculate Your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Score

If your profile enters the Express Entry pool, it will be ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Factors such as age, work experience, adaptability, and more contribute to this score. Your profile remains in the Express Entry pool if it meets the necessary CRS score.

Step 5: Receive Your Invitation to Apply (ITA)

If your profile is selected from the Express Entry pool, the Canadian government will issue you an Invitation to Apply (ITA). At this point, you can commence the documentation process for your Permanent Residency (PR) visa.
